So can you tell us the basics?
Your character dies in canon and ends up in purgatory. In this game, purgatory is a 21st century city known as Misericordia. Your character ends up living a miserable life in this city as if they were actually born here. How miserable? That's up to the player and the type of sins your character committed in canon. Get creative!

How does time pass in the game?
We have a 1:1 day ratio but you can backdate and forward-date at will.

Where's the network?
We're trying for a semi-realistic city so there's no network. However, your characters are free to make posts to the main comm involving forums and various social media like Twitter and Facebook. They can IM on anonymous chatrooms as well. Anonymous chatrooms and social media are our equivalent of a network here and anyone can make posts pertaining to either. To make an anon chatroom, just put [ANON CHATROOM] in your post title and go crazy. For social media, just slap on a "social media" label. For video posts, there's Chat Roulette, YouTube and Vine. For cellphone calls and private texts, we recommend an IC inbox but you're free to use the main comm especially if it's something that will become relevant to your fellow players later. If your character is mass texting everyone on their phone, the main comm is definitely the ideal venue for that.

How do memory regains work?
You can regain two to three memories a month. These regains are triggered by acts of repentance and are experienced in dreams. Do good deeds and you'll find the memories in your dreams growing more vivid. Acts of cruelty can also trigger regains but these tend to be more painful memories rather than pleasant ones. You can also regain items and physical marks like scars. They'll show up after you wake up from your dreaming. No, you don't need mod approval for these regains. We trust your judgment.

However, if you're iffy about a BIG regain, ask us about it. "Big" regains would be like suddenly having your giant dragon or mecha show up. You have to adapt that to the setting. A dragon becomes an iguana, a mech becomes a toy, a wolf becomes a dog, etc.

What qualifies as an act of repentance?
Good deeds, especially those that undo the sort of harm your character inflicted with their sins in canon. For example, a formerly greedy banker giving spare change to a hobo. Just any small act of kindness qualifies as long as you can say your character means it from the heart.

What about cruelty regains?
Just have your character go back to their old ways and commit their old sins. This will tend to trigger more painful regains like past injuries or heartbreak. Of course, even doing good deeds can trigger painful regains. Being an asshole just guarantees that your regain won't be anything good.

Can my character die?
Your character is already dead. If they die in purgatory, they'll just end up back in their bed the next day with a faint recollection of dying in a dream. The same can be said for anyone who watched the character die. No funerals here. Just characters going "Dude, last night I had a dream where you died!" "Oh my God, me too! That's so weird." but more emotional maybe.

Is pregnancy possible in Misericordia?
Yes but miscarriages are inevitable. Dead souls cannot give life to a new soul. No zombie ghost babies.

What happens when I drop a character?
We assume your character has either been "redeemed" or "condemned." Heaven or hell. That's up to you. Of course your character can still come back from heaven or hell once you reclaim. The deities in charge are fickle. In the city, your character will vanish out of the blue and leave all their stuff behind.

Are we allowed to claim more than one character from the same canon?
It depends on how popular the canon is and how closely related your characters are in canon. This will be determined on a case by case basis so contact the mods by shooting this journal a PM.

Are we allowed to claim original characters?
Absolutely! Original characters are perfectly permissible as long as they're not canon original characters who are closely related to canon characters. Claiming a random lord from Pride and Prejudice is fine. Claiming Mr. Darcy's long lost twin sister who you made up is not.

Do I need to get in touch with the mods for every little plot?
Nope! Usually a post to the OOC community is all we ask if you want to do a big plot. This allows us to help you out with tweaking it in the unlikely event that it clashes with certain things in the main plot. With small player plots we don't need a heads up but you're more than welcome to contact us for feedback or assistance.

Do I need mod permission to use NPCs?
Nope! Feel free to use NPCs as you please though we do ask that you tell us if you're going to be violent with them.

Can we age-up or age-down?
Yep! We consider that part of making an AU.
